Final Four Class Teases - plus an (almost) final map!
I apologize for taking 18 days to get another class teaser out. It's been a busy couple of weeks! I've been working a lot on Substitution v2.0 (that's a link to the character sheet devlog if you're interested), as well as publishing Fight! for the Dash jam. But I'm here, and ready to drop the FINAL FOUR CLASS TEASERS!
The Classes
And so, without further gilding the lily, and with no more ado, let's start with...
Soldier: Some are highly trained and some are local militia that waded into the fight, but all are ready to take lives, or lay down their own, for their cause. Your rank-and-file types, these aren't leaders on the field, but the ones doing the fighting. Think Biggs/Vicks and Wedge from the Final Fantasy series.
Spiritualist: While other magic users dabble with spirits, these folk wield all of their magic through them. They channel spiritual magic into spells or objects, and commune with spirits directly, even summoning them as allies. Summoners are a staple in Final Fantasy games, and the Spiritualist takes a bit of inspiration from Rydia from FFIV and Yuna from FFX, but it should be noted that spirits aren't generally huge creatures that change the battlefield, and Spiritualists are more likely to have familiars and small friends than earth shattering Titans.
Swashbuckler: The soldier fights because they have to, and the scoundrel fights to get ahead, but the swashbuckler fights because it’s exhilarating. They steal hearts as easily as they clash blades. Think Blackbeard from OFMD, Jack Sparrow, Puss in Boots from Shrek, Inigo Montoya, the list goes on. They're just as charming as they are fierce, and they love a good duel.
Thief: Their best work is done in the shadows and away from prying eyes. They are adept at getting where they don’t belong, and lining their pockets along the way. If you know Final Fantasy at all, you know this class is definitely an homage to Locke the thi- *ahem* treasure hunter! Like the Scoundrel, they've got some unsavory skills that can be essential to the good fight.
The Map
Okay first off, note that it is a near-guarantee that this is not the final-final version of the map. While I like how the land itself turned out, some of the lettering is less than ideal, and I want to make sure to fix that. However, you are definitely looking at the layout of the Valley! Vosgian and Hilonia are the southernmost regions of the Heartland, while Diuland, Akuland, and Delphindor make up the Provincial Trade Coalition's northernmost borders.
Each of these regions has a description and a history, and player characters can be from any of them! My next series of devlogs will start teasing the regions of the Valley, so be sure to stay tuned for more updates.
As always, thanks to anyone who made it this far! I appreciate you more than you can know :)
